Fin Stabilizers Help the M/Y Flying Colors Weather The Storm

Read how the owners of this 57 Tollycraft found new love for their WESMAR Stabilizers

Peter Van Schoonhoven captains the 57 Tollycraft Flying Colors out of Battle Ground, Washington.
He writes us about his new-found appreciation for his WESMAR fin stabilizers when caught in an overnight storm.

Here's his WESMAR story...

"Our 57 Tollycraft has Wesmar stabilizers, installed by a previous owner, and was not really on our must have list when we were shopping for our boat, but thought that they were certainly a bonus to have."

"One day we were anchored near Port Townsend, WA when and overnight a storm blew up. We were anchored in such a way that the wind was blowing us toward a rocky shore about 100 yards behind us, and we had about 15 miles clear fetch ahead of us. In the morning the wind was 20-25 knots, waves were 4-6 feet, and the boat was swinging back and forth 45 degrees either side of the wind direction. The anchor was holding, but it was an uncomfortable ride at anchor and it was forecast to stay that way all day."

"We opted to start the engines, turn on the stabilizers, and were amazed at the huge improvement in the ride even anchored. We powered forward and lifted the anchor remotely until it was free, then were able to travel upwind at 45 degrees to the wind until we could make a U turn into a nearby marina in relative comfort."
